Social Media Strategy: What You Need To Know
| February 11th, 2011 by Marty
You might be convinced of the need to develop an effective social media strategy, but are at a loss.
After all, aren’t these technologies normally used by young people, or by individuals looking to reconnect with old classmates? What is the best way to enter into this space without giving the impression of being an intruder?
Even though taking advantage of social media might appear to be quite challenging, it really is not as difficult to accomplish as it might sound. There are several steps ideas that need to be kept in mind, but they are not very difficult to understand.
● Your social media strategy needs to focus on being informal. After all, people use social networking sites to remain in contact with friends. At the same time, do not completely throw all vestiges of formality out the window.
● Try to present your products as being relevant to modern day society. While one interpretation could be to try and introduce an element of being cutting edge or cool, this approach could alienate some of your clientele.
● The goal of business is to make sales. However, your social media should not focus on turning networking sites into cash making sites. Instead, view the different media as a means of both disseminating information and generating interest.
● The different social networking sites are designed to enhance communication among people. Instead of focusing on making a sale, try to improve communication between both customers and prospective clients.
As can be seen, your company’s social media strategy needs to be one that has a different focus than other business strategies. Unlike a marketing strategy, it needs to focus not on generating sales, but in both creating and enhancing contact with the public.
Use these different media outlets as a means of making announcements about your business. Promotions, discounts, and new merchandise can all be announced via these media. Announcements such as these are immensely effective in advertising, since they are not only free but also will be seen by quite a few people during the day.
So do not feel daunted in any way about the prospect of needing to use new and possibly unfamiliar technologies. Instead, view it as an opportunity to enhance the businesses publicity as well as ability to disseminate information to the general public. It might take a little while, but eventually you will determine the most effective way to incorporate a social media strategy into your businesses infrastructure.
