Browsing the Internet, Mike stumbles across your website. He is looking for the product that you are trying to market and is intrigued at what he sees.
He reads all of the information on your home page before deciding to read further some of the other pages on your website. At this moment, you sit wondering what will make Mike decide that you are the right company to do business with; will he purchase your merchandise?
Turning visitors into customers should be the goal of every for-profit website. Maximizing your conversion rate in this area, however, is much easier said than done.
Customer’s tastes vary widely, and even though they might like what you say, in the end they have abandoned your site in favor of another.
Thankfully, turning visitors into orders is not a lofty unattainable goal. It is not possible to turn every single website visitor into a customer, but you can minimize the abandonment rate and maximize your conversion rate by taking a few simple steps.
Identify Your Target Market
Not all of your visitors are looking for the product you offer; they might be surfing the Internet and happen to come across your web page.

Study Your Target Market
Does your target market tend to prefer certain activities? What is the average level of education of your target market?
Questions like this may seem to be intrusive or pointless, but they are very important in the long run. They will help you abstain from either talking down to your market or phrasing your writing so that your target market cannot understand what you are saying.
Understanding your target market as much as possible is the next step to turning visitors into orders.
Design & Write For Your Target Market
You need to do everything that you can to convince potential customers that your site is the place to shop. Once you understand who your target market is and have a better understanding of their demographics, then you can successfully write the copy that speaks to them specifically and engages them in a conversation.
If you do all of the above steps, Mike might just decide that he wants to purchase your merchandise, and you have succeeded in making your business more profitable.
