4 Tips to Increase Your Website’s Conversion Rate

Many online business owners exert lots of energy trying to get more clicks on their websites. They spend time, money, and creative effort learning to attract attention and earn higher search engine rankings in order to increase the number of unique visitors each day.

While these steps can be an important part of your overall marketing strategy, don’t overlook the power of converting more of your present visitors into customers.

Use these four conversion optimization tips to turn your website into a selling powerhouse.

1. Browser Compatibility

Often overlooked in the conversion optimization process, browser capabilities offer huge potential to either hurt or help your sales.

Just because your website works on multiple browsers today, doesn’t mean that it will be compatible with the latest browser upgrades. Incompatibility with an upgrade equals the potential for lost customers.

Continually checking to make sure that your website is compatible with multiple browsers and all of their upgrades, automatically increases your sales potential and most likely your conversion rate as well.

2. Provide Information in Multiple Formats

Make information available to your site visitors in multiple formats.

  • Blog posts
  • articles
  • white papers
  • e-books
  • video
  • audio

Visitors prefer to process information as then need it. Early in the buying process they may only want small, concise bits of information. As they move closer to making a purchase, more in depth information helps them make a decision.

Conversion optimization is all about giving your customers high value for their time Focusing on your customer’s needs means that when that they’ll be more likely to remember you when the time comes to make a purchase, even if they don’t buy anything the first time they visit your site.

3. Make Your Calls To Action Obvious

Your sales copy and article content may convince your viewers that you’re an expert in your field, but if they can’t figure out how to take the next step, you’ll lose them to a competitor.

As you’re working toward conversion optimization, spend some time thinking about your call to action text.  The more specific your call to action, the more likely someone will be to notice and click on it.

Your call to action button should contrast with the rest of your page so that the eye is drawn to it. That doesn’t mean it has to be a big orange button, just that it should be obvious immediately when you enter the page.

4. Give to Get

Whether it’s an e-mail address for your newsletter or registration during check-out, give people a reason to give you their personal information.

With e-mail registrations, gift giving helps.  Offer something your target audience values, and your registrations will increase.

Automatically registering visitors during the sales process and assuming that they want to hear from you in the future, is probably a bad assumption. We are all inundated with unwanted e-mail solicitations. Let your customers choose if they want to continue to hear from you.

Many potential customers will forego doing business with you altogether, if you require registration during the check-out process.

Put the decision to register in the hands of your customers. Give them the benefits of registration and then leave the decision to them. Give them the option to make a purchase without registration and you’ll have a higher volume of visitors who complete the task.
