4 Tips to Improve Your Calls To Action
| August 5th, 2010 by Marty
A call to action is easy right? Just slap a big orange button at the bottom of the page that says Buy Now and wait for the sales to roll in.
Unfortunately, if you want to improve online sales, you’re going to have to put a little more effort into the process than seems necessary at first. If you want a call to action that improves web conversions and boosts your monthly sales data, you’ll need to put some thought into it.
1. Define Your Objective—
Do you know what you really want the reader to do? Does every page need a Buy Now button, or would some pages benefit more from asking readers to fill out a contact form?
Most visitors to your site will not make a purchase on the first visit. If you don’t find a way to connect to them, they may leave and never come back.
If, however, you can get them to sign up for a newsletter or email list, you can improve online sales by keeping your company in front of them so that when they need Product X, they’ll think of you first.
2. Make Action Easy—
The more information you ask for, the less likely it is that people will complete the task.
If your form has twelve different required fields and asks for detailed personal information, don’t expect as many conversions as with a simple, easy to use form. Try to get the information you need while asking as few questions as possible.
3. Leave the Customer in Control—
Your sales copy should leave your visitors feeling as if your goal is to provide the greatest benefit to them and that all they need to do is take one simple action in order to reap those benefits.
Improve online sales by using dialogue that focuses on the customer, not on you, and that paints a picture in his mind; then, leave the next step in his hands.
4. Improve Current Calls to Action on Highly Trafficked Pages—
If your web analytics program targets specific pages of your site as being the most highly trafficked pages, you can capitalize on that knowledge by creating outstanding calls to action.
Even small changes such as choosing a different color, making your button larger, or changing wording can add up to big results when it comes to conversion rates.Take advantage of the power of a good call to action to improve online sales and to convert more of your leads into customers.
